widening circles, pc
Widening Circles, PC is a private, integrative mental health and substance use disorder practice focused on providing individualized, intensive treatment in an outpatient setting. Utilizing an innovative, multidisciplinary team approach, we offer comprehensive assessment and intensive treatment tailored to the needs of each client.
While we provide intensive treatment on an outpatient basis, we are different from an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which is traditionally 9 hours of group treatment per week. At assessment, Widening Circles clinical staff creates a one-of-a-kind, individualized treatment plan based on client preferences, strengths, and needs. We work with each client closely to determine what approaches, skill sets, and services will be most beneficial.
Typically, each client has a "primary therapist" who guides the client's treatment plan. Our multidisciplinary treatment team meets face to face (telehealth in pandemic times) on a weekly basis and communicates throughout the week to ensure coordinated, integrated care. Though each client's treatment plan differs, most clients engage in five individualized contacts per week. As a comparison, many mental health and/or substance use disorder residential treatment programs offer one individual therapy session per week in addition to daily groups.
Our program primarily serves motivated clients seeking a higher level of care than traditional outpatient treatment can provide; those seeking a supportive aftercare option following inpatient or residential care; and clients who may receive benefit from working one-on-one with members of a coordinated treatment team. Many of our providers are dually licensed to treat mental health and substance use disorder conditions and have years of experience working with the interplay of complex trauma, addiction and mental health concerns.
Philosophically, we are rooted in a trauma-informed, humanistic perspective and our providers are trained in a variety of evidence-based modalities and practices. We are LGBTQ+ friendly and competent (many of us are in the LGBTQ+ community ourselves) and continually seek out training to foster greater multicultural competence and humility. We are comfortable working within a harm reduction framework and understand that treatment is not one-size-fits-all. We firmly believe there are many roads to recovery and are honored to work with our clients seeking hope and healing. While evidence-based practices guide our treatment, research has shown time and again that modalities are much less important than the therapeutic connection between client and provider.
